This is my rl insulin pump, the artifical pancreas that keeps me alive and kicking. I spent several years looking for a doctor that believed in them as a treatment and when I found one I kept him, over 10 years later he’s still my endocrinologist and friend. After my mom developed diabetes she got one too. Then my cousin, my aunt. Anyway. I felt like I always wanted to design something in Second Life that was meaningful and lasting, a contribution I could stand behind, and when Tymm mentioned it during our Man Behind the Goatee interview, I came up with the idea of a virtual Insulin Pump, which lead to the gallery here of Insulin Pump Hotties, and my efforts to support the jdrf through my SL store and creation of the Juvenille Diabetes Foundation in sl, our tag is “I’m Sugar-free”, which I love. The Youtube video I made of my friends wearing the pump…. Yeah, it’s meaningful…. It’s even led to me being contacted by Dutch TV, Chicago radio, national director’s for diabetes education, and a research hospital. I’m not a poster child for diabetes care, my eyes and the complications I have as a young man could have been avoided, but the education I’m getting to do now, is very special to me.

All of the diabetes stuff mentioned above can be found at my diabetes page here.

Topic for today: How long have you been a blogger? How has it enriched your life?

My very very first blog post was in the middle of 2005 and was a blog to document the fictional journal of my star wars galaxies character, also where I got my second life name, Noelyci. Thanks to the persistance of the internets you can still read it here.

Over time my eyes went and I couldn’t play SWG anymore so I gravitated to Second Life where I could take things at my own pace, I’d been there since 2004 but didn’t devote as much time before then. A new game, meant a new blog, especially since I was running my own business there, so ingmanndesign.blogspot.com was born. I eventually moved to my own domain and here I am. I love blogging, hoping that my posts help people avoid some of the mistakes that I’ve made and that they teach, it’s also gratifying that people I admire read my blog, it’s always nice to see Encore or Tateru make a comment, on top of it I’ve made real friends like Alicia and Pheobe and Tymm and and and…. well, the list could go on for a very long time.

Turn in tomorrow for the next post.
